Nifty future closed at 7726.25 on Tuesday. The Indian equity market ended with modest gains on Tuesday amid a day of wild swings. The Nifty was seen gyrating over 80 points while Sensex swung 300 points between its intra-day highs and low . Today’s recovery was led by the realty, power, capital goods, auto and utilities stocks. Even the Mid-Cap and Small-Caps also participated in the late recovery.

PPF interest rates have been reduced from 8.7% to 8.1%, while that on 5 year recurring deposit has been reduced to 7.4% from 8.4%. The interest rate on Kisan Vikas Patra has been slashed to 7.8% from 8.7%. Besides, the government also has slashed interest rates on 3-year time deposit to 7.4% from 8.4%; 5 year time deposit to 7.9% from 8.5% and on girl child scheme to 8.6% from 9.2%.  Telecom index gained 1.4% to 1265.10 points at the closing bell on Friday from its previous close of 1246.96 points. Telecom stocks are rallying for the second consecutive session. A relief to telcos, Supreme Court on March 17 asked Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to consider partial roll-back of call drop penalty.

Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would be having a meeting on March 18, in order to decide the Government’s calendar for market borrowing, for the period of April-September.
The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill was cleared by the Rajya Sabha. It will become an Act once the President of India ratifies it, which is expected to be a formality. This Act will lead to the creation of regulator for the real estate sector to protect the interest of buyers by providing a uniform regulatory environment. This will also ensure a level field for developers. The Act will improve buyer confidence and boost demand for residential real estate.  The government is taking major steps to incentivize exploration of oil and gas in the country. These reformative steps are expected to boost country’s energy security by increasing domestic output and reduce dependence on imports.One of the biggest changes is the replacement of existing profit-sharing arrangement in hydrocarbon exploration, with a revenue-sharing formula. The government and private players have been spending a lot of time in courts over disputes regarding pricing and cost recovery and hopefully the formula will solve this aspect of the relationship.
